Former Inspector to Lead School Leader Fatality Review

Ex-Ofsted boss to lead head teacher death review

Former Ofsted chief inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw, has been appointed to lead a review into the deaths of head teachers in England. This comes after a recent spate of tragic incidents involving school leaders.

Wilshaw, who led Ofsted from 2012 to 2016, will investigate the underlying causes behind the deaths and make recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The review is expected to address issues such as the pressures facing head teachers, the support systems available to them, and any systemic problems within the education sector that may contribute to their mental health challenges.

Education Secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, has welcomed Wilshaw’s appointment, stating that his experience and expertise make him well-suited to lead the review.

The findings of the review are expected to be published later this year, with the government committed to implementing any necessary changes to better support and protect head teachers across the country.
